Midfield Star Could Join Arsenal, Liverpool Or Tottenham After Chief Confirms Exit
Max Meyer could be set for a move to Arsenal, Liverpool or Tottenham after Schalke confirmed the midfielder will leave the club this summer
The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Max Meyer could be heading to the Premier League…
Max Meyer could be set for a move to Arsenal, Liverpool or Tottenham after Schalke confirmed the midfielder will leave the club this summer, according to TeamTalk.
Meyer has been with Schalke his entire career having joined the club as a child and he progressed through the youth ranks to become one the most exciting young talents in German football.
The 22-year-old initially made his name as an attacker but he’s excelled since being converted in to a deep-lying central midfielder this season by boss Domenico Tedesco.
However, Meyer’s future has been the subject of constant speculation in recent months as his contract is due to expire in June and the player has shown no sign that he wants to pen an extension.
The German international has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with TeamTalk claiming that Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have all expressed their interest in signing him.
The trio have now been handed a major boost as Schalke director Christian Heidel has confirmed that Meyer is set to leave on a free transfer this summer after talks over a new deal collapsed.
Heidel is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer. Everything suggests that.
“There is no offer from us and no wish from Max to have a conversation again.”
Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new ball-playing midfielder as Jack Wilshere is no closer to signing a new deal while Santi Cazorla’s career is in jeopardy due to a long-term ankle injury.
Jurgen Klopp is also expected to sign another midfielder this summer as Emre Can is being tipped to leave when his deal expires in June and the Liverpool boss knows Meyer well from his time in Germany.
However, Spurs are also seemingly eyeing the young midfielder as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his squad this summer and Meyer could be viewed as a potential replacement for Victor Wanyama – who’s been linked with a move away.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but I think Meyer would be an excellent signing on a free transfer if Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool were able to win the race for his signature.
