Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale is being tipped to join Chelsea despite recent claims he’s set for a move to Manchester United this summer, according to reports in Spain via the Express.
Bale has provided 79 goals and 58 assists in 179 appearances to help Madrid win a whole host of honours including 3 Champions League titles since joining the club from Tottenham almost five years ago.
However, Bale’s future at the Bernabeu is in serious doubt as the winger has been hampered by a number of injuries over the past two years and Madrid are reportedly frustrated with his persistent injury problems.
The Welsh international has been in and out of Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven since returning to fitness in the New Year and it’s led to rumours the Euro giants are ready to cash-in.
Bale has been strongly linked with a move to United in recent transfer windows and the Express reported earlier this week that Madrid were ready to sell Bale to the Red Devils for £87.5m this summer.
Jose Mourinho is expected to be active in the market this summer trying to build a squad capable of competing for major honours next season and a swoop for Bale was seemingly on the cards.
However, the proposed switch could be in jeopardy as the Express are now citing reports from Don Balon that claim Madrid have pulled the plug on United’s deal and are ready to sell Bale to Chelsea instead.
The Spanish publication says Madrid will use the 28-year-old as bait to pull off a sensational move for Hazard after Florentino Perez made the Chelsea star his prime target ahead of the summer.
Madrid had been linked with Neymar but the report suggests the La Liga giants have now turned their attention to Hazard after learning of his desire to move to the Spanish capital and they will offer Bale to Chelsea as part of any deal.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop as I’m sure there will be plenty more twists and turns to this story over the coming months but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bale back in the Premier League next season.
