The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Samuel Umtiti has confirmed interest from Man Utd…

Samuel Umtiti has confirmed Manchester United are interested in signing him as Jose Mourinho looks to lure the £52.6m Barcelona star to Old Trafford, according to the Mirror.

Umtiti has developed in to one of the best young centre-backs in world football since joining Barca from Lyon in 2016 and he’s now a regular in Eresto Valverde’s starting eleven.

However, the 24-year-old’s future at the Nou Camp has been called in to question with widespread reports suggesting that Barcelona will refuse to meet his hefty wage demands.

The situation has alerted Man Utd with the Mirror claiming that Mourinho is ready to meet Umtitit’s £52.6m release clause as he looks to strengthen his defensive options this summer.

The Daily Mail also reported recently that Mourinho had personally called Umtiti to offer him a lucrative contract worth £7.8m per season if he made a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The French international has now confirmed United’s interest in signing him but it sounds like the Red Devils aren’t the only club in the running if Umtiti decides to leave the Nou Camp this summer.

The defender is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“It’s not only Man Utd, other clubs want me as well, but my sole focus is on Barcelona.

“Negotiations for a contract renewal have not started yet. My release clause is low, but that’s not what I worry about, I’m focused on the pitch.”

Mourinho is expected to be in the market for a new centre-back this summer as Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are being linked with moves and Victor Lindelof has failed to hold down a regular place since joining the club last year.

Umtiti would be a superb signing if United could pull it off and he’d be a bargain in today’s market at £52.6m but we’ll have to wait and see how negotiations progress over the coming months.
