Man Utd In Talks To Sign £50m International Star As Mourinho Kick-Starts Overhaul

The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Djibril Sidibe….

Manchester United are in negotiations with Monaco over a deal to sign £50m-rated defender Djibril Sidibe as Jose Mourinho looks to kick-start a defensive overhaul, according to reports in France via TeamTalk.

Mourinho is expected to further strengthen his squad this summer as he looks to compete with Manchester City next season and a defensive reshuffle has become a priority.

A new centre-back is on the agenda and United have been strongly linked with Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti in recent months but Mourinho is also in the market for a new full-back.

Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are coming towards the end of their careers while Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw are expected to leave this summer after falling out of favour.

Therefore, at least one new full-back is required and TeamTalk are citing a report from Le10Sport that claims Mourinho has identified Sidibe as a prime transfer target.

The French publication says negotiations are already underway and Sidibe is understood to be keen on the idea of making a big-money move to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

However, United will have to be prepared to dig deep if they want to sign the 25-year-old defender as the report says Monaco value Sidibe at around £50m.

The French international has been in excellent form since joining Monaco from Lille in 2016 and the powerful full-back helped them win the Ligue 1 title during his first season at the Stade Louis II.

Sidibe is predominantly a right-back so he could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Valencia but he’s also capable of playing on the opposite flank so his versatility would be a useful asset for Mourinho.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but United obviously have the financial firepower to pay Monaco’s reported asking price and I think Sidibe would be an excellent signing if Mourinho could lure him to Old Trafford.

United need to be just as focussed on players they have particularly the younger ones who are the future of United. Mourinho is one who can destroy their enthusiasm for the Club if they are not playing when they have proven themselves at premiere and international level. Martial, Rashford, Fosu Mensah, Tuanzebe, Periera all with years ahead of them. Sanchez, Matic, are not the future or any other player of 28+ that Mourinho wishes to covert e.g. Kroos, Bale, Ronaldo, Matuidi all mentioned as being considered, all in their declining years.
