Manchester United are plotting a sensational swoop on Liverpool for Mohamed Salah as Jose Mourinho lines-up a replacement for Anthony Martial, according to reports in Spain via the Daily Star.

Martial has reportedly grown increasingly frustrated with his bit part role under Mourinho having started just 16 league games this season and it’s led to rumours he’ll be on the move this summer.

Obviously if United lose the French international at the end of the season they’ll need to fill the void left by the 22-year-old and it seems Mourinho has an ambitious target in mind.

The Daily Star are citing reports from El Gol Digital that claim United are eyeing a shock swoop on Liverpool after identifying Salah as the man they want to replace Martial.

However, not only will United have to deal with fierce resistance from Liverpool, but the Spanish publication suggests Real Madrid are also keen on luring Salah to the Bernabeu this summer.

The Egyptian international took his tally to an incredible 39 goals this season with another strike during Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final win over Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old has also chipped in with a further 11 assists during what’s been an outstanding debut season at Anfield following his move from Roma last summer so it’s no surprise that he’s attracting interest from the likes of United and Madrid.

However, despite these reports, I don’t think there is even a remote possibility that Liverpool would do business with United as the backlash from supporters would be unprecedented.

United and Madrid are probably two of only a handful of clubs that could realistically afford Salah if Liverpool did cash-in but I think the attacker would end up in Spain if he was to leave Merseyside this summer.
