Man Utd Step-Up Pursuit Of £25m-Rated Star As Mourinho Eyes Summer Swoop

The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Kieran Tierney…

Manchester United will step-up their pursuit of Kieran Tierney by sending scouts to watch the full-back during Celtic’s clash with Rangers on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho is gearing-up for another busy summer of transfer activity as the United boss knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if they’re to compete for major trophies next season.

Left-back has always been a problem area for Mourinho ever since he arrived at Old Trafford and Ashley Young has been used as a make-shift solution for the majority of the campaign.

Luke Shaw has fallen out-of-favour again and is expected to leave at the end of the season following a reported bust-up with Mourinho so a long-term replacement is needed.

Several players have been linked with a move to United in recent months but Tierney has emerged as a prime target and it looks like Mourinho is ready to step-up his interest this weekend ahead of a potential summer swoop.

The Daily Mail claim United representatives will be in the stands to watch Tierney at Sunday’s Old Firm Derby after the 20-year-old was recommended to Mourinho by his scouting team.

The newspaper says Mourinho had planned to watch the Celtic youngster in person during Scotland’s recent friendly with Costa Rica but Tierney withdrew from the squad shortly before the game.

The left-back has been with Celtic his entire career having joined the clubs youth system as a child and he’s been hugely impressive since breaking in to the first team set-up in 2015.

Tierney signed a new long-term contract earlier in the season but the Mirror suggested last month that Celtic would consider cashing-in if £25m was put on the table this summer.

Obviously United have the financial resources to meet that valuation and Tierney would be a lot cheaper than the likes of Tottenham’s Danny Rose – who’s also been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
