The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Bruno Fernandes…

Liverpool have opened talks with Sporting Lisbon over a potential deal to sign £87m-rated attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to be in the market for another attack-minded midfielder after failing to bring in a direct replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his move to Barcelona in January.

A number of players have been linked with a move to Anfield in recent months but it looks like Klopp has lined-up Fernandes as a player who could potentially fill the departed Brazilian international’s boots.

It seems the Reds have stepped-up their interest as the Mirror are citing a report from the Metro that claims Liverpool have opened talks with Sporting Lisbon over a deal to sign Fernandes at the end of the season.

The newspaper says Klopp and his scouting team have been keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old this campaign and they’ve formalised their interest after watching the attacker enjoy an excellent debut season in Portugal.

Fernandes only joined Sporting from Sampdoria last summer but has settled instantly having provided 14 goals and 20 assists in all competitions so far this campaign to help lead them to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The Portuguese international is predominantly a central attacking midfielder so he would give Klopp another vital option in the middle of the park if he does complete a move to Merseyside this summer.

However, Liverpool will have to be prepared to dig deep as the newspaper says Fernandes has an £87m release clause written in to his contract and Sporting are unlikely to sell for much less considering his deal still has four years left to run.
