Arsenal Hoping To Beat Man Utd To Signing Of £25m Serie A Star

The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Daniele Rugani…

Arsenal are hoping to fend off interest from Manchester United to secure a deal for Juventus’s £25m-rated defender Daniele Rugani this summer, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Rugani has emerged as one of the hottest young centre-back’s in Italian football since joining Juventus as a teenager and he enjoyed a hugely successful two-year loan spell at Empoli between 2013 and 2015.

However, the 23-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular first team place under Max Allegri since returning to Turin and he’s managed to start just 17 games so far this campaign with Medhi Benatia and Giorgio Chiellini the preferred centre-back pairing.

It’s led to speculation Rugani could be on the move this summer in search of regular first team football and TeamTalk claim Arsenal and Man Utd both expressed their interest back in January.

Jose Mourinho could target Rugani as a potential new recruit this summer as the United boss is expected to strengthen his defence with the futures of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof all uncertain.

However, Rugani’s agent, Davide Torchia, has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in recent months and TeamTalk are citing a report from Transfermarketweb that claims the Gunners are now ready to formalise their pursuit.

The outlet says Arsene Wenger has identified the Italian international as a potential replacement for Shkodran Mustafi with the German international struggling for form throughout the season.

Per Mertesacker will also retire in June while Laurent Koscielny has struggled with an on-going Achilles injury so a new central defender is needed at the Emirates and it seems Rugani is on Wenger’s radar.

We’ll have to see how things progress but TeamTalk claim the Italian youngster is valued at around £25m and I think he’d be an excellent signing if Arsenal could snap him up at that price in today’s market.
