Arsenal Or Liverpool Could Hijack Deal As £35m Star Stalls Over Chelsea Move

Arsenal or Liverpool could look to hijack Chelsea’s attempts to sign Jean-Michael Seri after the £35m Nice midfielder stalled over a move to Stamford Bridge

The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Jean-Michael Seri…

Arsenal or Liverpool could look to hijack Chelsea’s attempts to sign Jean-Michael Seri after the £35m Nice midfielder stalled over a move to Stamford Bridge, according to the Mirror.

Seri has become one of the most highly-rated midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 while he’s also now a regular with the Ivory Coast national team.

The 26-year-old came close to joining Barcelona last summer before the deal fell through at the last minute while he’s also attracted interest from several top clubs throughout Europe.

Teams from the upper echelons of the Premier League have been strongly linked with the Mirror claiming that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all expressed their interest in signing Seri ahead of the summer.

Arsene Wenger is expected to be in the market for midfield reinforcements as Jack Wilshere is set to leave the club after failing to agree terms over a new contract while Santi Cazorla’s future is in doubt due to a long-term injury.

Jurgen Klopp is also on the look out for a new midfielder as Emre Can has been tipped to leave Anfield as his contract is up in June and no agreement over a new deal is likely to be reached.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are seemingly tracking Seri and the duo may decide to step-up their interest as the Mirror claim the midfielder has put a proposed move to Chelsea on hold.

The newspaper says Chelsea are ready to pay the £35m required to trigger Seri’s release clause but the Ivorian star is refusing to complete a move to Stamford Bridge until he knows who’ll be in charge at the club next season.

Despite winning the title last year, Antonio Conte is hotly tipped to leave west London following a difficult campaign and it seems Seri isn’t willing to join the Blues without first knowing who his manager will be.

That could open the door for the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool to swoop in – although the Gunners may face the same problem as Wenger’s future at the Emirates will be reviewed following a disappointing season.
