Arsenal To Steal March On Man Utd & Tottenham With £17.5m Defender Bid
Arsenal are ready to steal a march on Manchester United and Tottenham by launching a £17.5m bid to sign Porto right-back Ricardo Pereira
The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Ricardo Pereira…
Arsenal are ready to steal a march on Manchester United and Tottenham by launching a £17.5m bid to sign Porto right-back Ricardo Pereira, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Pereira joined Porto from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2013 and after a solid first two years at the club he moved to France and enjoyed an excellent two-year loan spell at Nice between 2015-2017.
The 24-year-old returned to Porto last summer and has been a key member of the starting eleven this season with 41 appearances in all competitions so far while he’s also broken in to the Portuguese national team set-up.
The right-back’s potential has alerted clubs here in the Premier League as TeamTalk claim that Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United have all expressed an interest in luring Pereira to England.
Spurs were strongly linked with Pereira last summer and the report suggests they could renew their interest as Serge Aurier has endured a mixed time of things since moving to north London from PSG.
United are expected to sign a new right-back as Matteo Darmian is set to leave Old Trafford this summer while Antonio Valencia turns 33 in August so Pereira could be viewed as a possible long-term replacement.
However, TeamTalk are citing reports emanating from A Bola that claim Arsenal are now in pole position to sign Pereira and are ready to open talks with his agent about a move to the Emirates.
The Portuguese publication says Arsenal scouts have watched Pereira closely this season and the north Londoners are ready to meet his buyout clause, which is set at a very reasonable £17.5m [€20m].
The Gunners are on the look out for a new right-back as they have very little competition for Hector Bellerin after releasing Mathieu Debuchy in January and it looks like Pereira has emerged as a serious target.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop as there is obviously still time for the likes of United and Spurs to step-up their interest but it seems Arsenal are ready to make their move and Pereira would be a solid addition to their squad.
