Liverpool have put one foot in the final of the Champions League after beating AS Roma 5-2 in a thrilling semi-final first leg at Anfield this evening.

The Reds opened the scoring in spectacular fashion as Mohamed Salah found the top corner with a stunning effort in the 35th minute before doubling Liverpool’s lead on the stroke of half-time.

Salah then unselfishly set-up Sadio Mane to make it 3-0 in the 56th minute before putting one on a plate for Roberto Firmino to tap home for 4-0 shortly after.

It looked like Liverpool had secured their position in the final when Firmino made it 5-0 with a header in the 68th minute as the Merseysiders ran riot at Anfield.

However, Roma pulled one back when Edin Dzeko got in behind the defence to make it 5-1 before James Milner gave away a penalty after handling in the area in the 85th minute.

Diego Perotti made no mistake for 5-2 and while Liverpool are obviously in total control of the tie, Roma will take heart from the fact they beat Barcelona 3-0 in the quarter finals at the Stadio Olimpico.
