Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Ready To Launch £52.5m Double Swoop
Arsenal are being tipped to spend £52.5m on the signing of a right-back and a Swedish winger this summer. See full details here
The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with a £52.5m double swoop….
Arsenal eye £35m Forsberg
First up and according to Bild via the Mirror, Arsenal are ready to launch a swoop to sign £35m-rated RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg this summer.
The Swedish international was reportedly on Arsenal’s radar after racking up a stunning 22 assists last season and we’ve supposedly been keeping a close eye on his progress this campaign.
Forsberg hasn’t quite lived up to his form of last year as he’s managed just 5 goals and 4 assists so far but he has been hampered by a niggling pelvic injury for much of the season.
Talk of a move to the Emirates has resurfaced as the 26-year-old’s future in Germany has been called in to question after his agent slammed the decision to ban Forsberg for three games following his sending off at the weekend.
Agent Hasan Cetinkaya is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“The ban is a scandal! Emil was fouled and provoked, didn’t even hit his opponent properly. The verdict is an attack on RB and Emil. They would not have done such a thing to a Bayern Munich player!”
The newspaper is citing a report from Bild that claims Arsenal could now launch a swoop for the winger – who’s valued at around £35m by Leipzig – and the German publication feels we’d have a good chance of getting a deal agreed.
Arsenal have a distinct lack of width in the squad following the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott so Forsberg’s arrival would add a new dimension to our attack as he’s able to play out on either wing.
Arsenal set to sign Piccini
Next up and talkSPORT are citing reports from Portugal that claim Arsenal are set to win the race to sign Sporting Lisbon full-back Cristiano Piccini this summer.
The 25-year-old only joined Sporting from Real Betis last summer but he’s enjoyed a solid debut season in Portugal having started 22 league games so far.
It seems his potential has caught the attention of Arsenal scouts as talkSPORT are quoting reports from Jornal do Noticias that claim Arsenal are in pole position to beat West Ham and Juventus to Piccini’s signature.
The Portuguese publication says Arsenal are ready to pay £17.5m to secure the right-back and Sporting are expected to cash-in as that would give them a huge profit on the £2.6m they paid less than 12 months ago.
We desperately need competition for Hector Bellerin as we’ve had to rely on Calum Chambers as our back-up right-back following the release of Mathieu Debuchy in January.
