Arsenal Battling Liverpool To Sign £17.5m Star After Player Tells Club He Wants Move

Arsenal have joined Liverpool in the the race to sign Bernd Leno after he told Bayer Leverkusen he wants to leave the club this summer

The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Bernd Leno….

Arsenal have joined Liverpool in the the race to sign Bernd Leno after he told Bayer Leverkusen he wants to leave the club this summer, according to Bild via the Sun.

Leno has become one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Bundesliga since joining Leverkusen from Stuttgart in 2011 and he’s racked up almost 300 first team appearances for the club.

The 26-year-old is also expected to be named in the Germany squad for this summers World Cup finals with Leno third choice behind Manuel Neuer and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

However, the goalkeepers future at Leverkusen is in serious doubt as Bild, via the Sun, claim Leno has told the Bundesliga outfit he will leave this summer in search of a new challenge.

The German publication says Leno has decided to use his buyout clause – which is set at £17.5m – and Leverkusen are already planning for his departure after agreeing a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt keeper Lukas Hradecky.

The situation has seemingly alerted several top European clubs as Bild claim that Arsenal have now joined the likes of Liverpool, Altetico Madrid and Napoli in the chase to sign Leno this summer.

Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new number one as Petr Cech turns 36 this year and the Czech legends form has been slowly deteriorating throughout this season.

With Arsene Wenger leaving this summer, Sven Mislintat has been tasked with overseeing Arsenal’s transfer business and Bild says the head of recruitment has identified Leno as Cech’s successor.

However, the Gunners could yet face competition from Liverpool as Simon Mignolet is expected to leave Anfield after falling out of favour and Jurgen Klopp is also reportedly a fan of the Leverkusen stopper.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Leno would be an excellent purchase for £17.5m in today’s market so he’d be a great addition for Arsenal or Liverpool.
