Chelsea and Tottenham are among the clubs ready to battle over a £22m deal to sign Spartak Moscow midfielder Fernando this summer, according to the Sun.

Fernando – full name Fernando Lucas Martins – has been in excellent form since joining Spartak two years ago in a £10m deal following an impressive season in Italy with Sampdoria.

The 26-year-old’s excellent performances have caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with the Sun claiming that Chelsea and Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Fernando this summer.

The newspaper says the London duo are ready to battle-it-out over a deal to sign the former Brazilian international at the end of the season after identifying him as a summer transfer target.

Chelsea are expected to revamp their squad as they look destined to miss out on the top four and Fernando could be viewed as a potential replacement for Danny Drinkwater.

The England international is tipped to leave Stamford Bridge after struggling to make an impression following his move from Leicester City last summer and he’s managed just 12 starts for the Blues.

Mauricio Pochettino is also expected to further strengthen his squad after all-but sealing Champions League football again next year and Fernando is also on Tottenham’s radar amid doubts over the future of Victor Wanyama.
