Chelsea Join Tottenham In Race To Sign £44m Manchester United Star

Chelsea have joined Tottenham in the race to sign unsettled Manchester United forward Anthony Martial this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The transfer window may be closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Anthony Martial….

Chelsea have joined Tottenham in the race to sign unsettled Manchester United forward Anthony Martial this summer, according to the Telegraph.

Martial was considered as one of the most exciting young attackers in European football when he joined United from Monaco in 2015 and he enjoyed an encouraging start to life in Manchester.

However, the 22-year-old’s future at Old Trafford has been cast in doubt as Martial has struggled to hold down a regular first team place under Jose Mourinho this season.

The French international has started 17 Premier League games so far this campaign and has only been picked for the starting eleven five times since Alexis Sanchez moved to United in January.

His lack of regular action has seen Martial linked with a move this summer and the Telegraph claim that Chelsea have now joined Tottenham in expressing their interest in signing him.

The newspaper says Juventus are also in the running and are ready to test United’s resolve with a £44m offer but Chelsea have the financial firepower to match what the Italians are prepared to pay.

Antonio Conte’s future at Stamford Bridge is in doubt and even beating United in the FA Cup final later this month may not save his job but Roman Abramovich is still pressing ahead with their transfer business.

A new forward is on the agenda and Chelsea could be eyeing Martial as a potential replacement for Willian – who’s been linked with a move away from West London this summer.

Chelsea are set to miss out on Champions League football and the riches that come with it but the report says they are ready to raise over £100m by selling off fringe players like Michy Batshuayi, Danny Drinkwater and David Luiz.

United are hopeful of persuading Martial to remain at the club but it will be interesting to see if they allow him to join a domestic rival if the French attacker insists on leaving for a new challenge this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming weeks but I think Martial would be an excellent signing for Chelsea or Tottenham if either club was able to get a deal agreed for his signature.
