Arsenal In Talks To Sign Bundesliga Star, £22m Deal Could Be Agreed

Arsenal are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen star Bernd Leno ahead of a potential £22m deal as we look to find a replacement for Petr Cech

The summer transfer window is fast approaching and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are in talks to sign Bernd Leno…

Arsenal are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen star Bernd Leno ahead of a potential £22m deal as we look to find a replacement for Petr Cech, according to Bild via the Metro.

The club are working hard to find Arsene Wenger’s successor after he announced he will leave at the end of the season but whoever takes over is going to need a new No.1 if we’re to compete for major honours next year.

Cech’s form has declined dramatically this season and the Czech legend – who turns 36 this month – has made several high profile errors that have cost us valuable points this campaign.

David Ospina is expected to leave after failing to hold down a regular place so a new first choice keeper is needed this summer and Leno has emerged as a prime target in recent months.

The 26-year-old has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Bundesliga since joining Leverkusen from Stuttgart in 2011 and he’s racked up over 300 first team appearances for the club.

Leno is expected to be named in the German squad for the World Cup finals but it seems he’s eyeing a move away from Leverkusen amid reports he’s told the club he wants to leave this summer.

Arsenal have been touted as a potential destination and it seems we’ve stepped-up our interest as the Metro are citing a report from Bild that claims we’re in talks with Leno about a move to north London.

The German publication says the keeper has turned down Napoli as he doesn’t want to move to Italy but a switch to Arsenal or Atletico Madrid could still be on the cards with both clubs holding talks with the stopper.

Leno is under contract at Leverkusen until 2020 but the report says his deal includes a £22m buyout clause so there is nothing they can do to stop him leaving if Arsenal agree to meet that figure.

We’ll have to wait and see whether we decide to formalise our interest with a firm offer but I think Leno would be an excellent addition to the squad so it would be £22m well spent in my opinion.
