The summer transfer window is fast approaching and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Diogo Leite…

Liverpool are leading Arsenal in the race to sign Porto’s highly-rated defender Diogo Leite – who’s available for £13.2m this summer, according to the Guardian.

Leite has progressed through the Porto youth system after joining them as a youngster and has been impressing with some excellent performances for the B team this season.

The 19-year-old has attracted interest from throughout Europe and a host of scouts were in the stands to watch Leite produce a superb display during Porto U23’s 1-0 win over Arsenal U23’s in the final of the International Cup on Tuesday night.

The Guardian say reports coming out of Portugal claim Arsenal are prepared to meet the youngsters £13.2m release clause as the north Londoners try to build for the future ahead of Arsene Wenger’s departure.

However, the newspaper says Liverpool have also expressed their interest in signing Leite this summer and the Merseysiders are now understood to be leading the chase for his signature.

Liverpool have a strong reputation for developing young talent and the Guardian claim the Reds are hoping to steal a march on Arsenal to lure Leite to Anfield over the coming weeks.

If they’re successful, then the report says Klopp is planning to send the teenager out on loan next season to ensure he gets regular football so he won’t be considered for the first-team just yet.

Porto are understandably determined to hang on to Leite but there isn’t much they can do to prevent him leaving if the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool meet his release clause this summer.
