Arsenal’s Impending £22m Deal Leaves Liverpool In Pole Position To Sign £30m Star

Arsenal are closing-in on a £22m deal to sign Bernd Leno leaving Liverpool in pole position to land Southampton’s Alex McCarthy this summer

The summer transfer window is just around the corner and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Bernd Leno and Alex McCarthy….

Arsenal are closing-in on a £22m deal to sign Bernd Leno leaving Liverpool in pole position to land Southampton’s Alex McCarthy this summer, according to TeamTalk.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move for McCarthy in recent weeks after his impressive campaign between the sticks played a key role in helping Southampton survive the drop.

However, TeamTalk claim that Arsenal are focussing their attention on signing Leno and are in advanced talks over a £22m deal to land the Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper.

The Gunners are expected to bring in a new number one to replace Petr Cech this summer and the report says head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is close to agreeing terms with Leno’s agent over a move to the Emirates.

The German international has been in excellent form once again for Leverkusen this season and it seems the 26-year-old is on the verge of sealing a switch to north London this summer.

That would pave the way for Liverpool to step-up their interest in McCarthy as Jurgen Klopp looks to sign reliable competition for Loris Karius ahead of next season.

Simon Mignolet is expected to leave Anfield after losing his place and it seems Liverpool are ready to raid St Mary’s yet again having recently signed the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne from the Saints.

Alisson has been touted as Liverpool’s preferred target in the media, however, Roma have slapped a huge price-tag on his head and it appears McCarthy has been lined-up as a cheaper alternative.

The 28-year-old has shown some great form since joining Southampton from Crystal Palace for £2.5m two years ago and TeamTalk suggest his value has now risen to around £30m.

However, McCarthy has just one year left on his contract so Liverpool will no doubt look to drive that price down and the keeper would find it difficult to turn down the opportunity if the Reds come calling.
