Talks Underway – Man Utd Closing-In On Deal To Sign £40m South American Star

By on May 14, 2018

The summer transfer window is just around the corner and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Fred…

Manchester United are in talks with Fred’s agents about a move to Old Trafford and are closing-in on a deal to sign the £40m-rated Shakhtar Donetsk star, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one central midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick is retiring while Marouane Fellaini is being tipped to leave after failing to agree terms over a new contract.

Fred has emerged as a prime candidate in recent months with widespread reports suggesting that United have been battling it out with Manchester City over the South American’s signature.

However, TeamTalk are citing a report from the Daily Star that claims United are now in pole position ahead of their rivals after holding talks with Fred’s representatives about a move to Old Trafford.

The report says negotiations are well underway between the two parties and United are understood to be closing in on a deal to sign the Brazilian international this summer.

The 25-year-old has been in excellent form since joining Shakhtar from International in 2013 and he has plenty of Champions League experience with the Ukrainian giants.

Fred’s performances have seen him named in Brazil’s provisional 23-man squad for this summers World Cup finals and it looks like he could head to Russia as Manchester United player.

Shakhtar will no doubt be reluctant to lose the midfielder but TeamTalk suggest they will cash-in if £40m is put on the table and United obviously have the financial muscle to pay that kind of money.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Fred would be an excellent signing for United if Mourinho manage’s to pull off a deal this summer.
