Offers On The Table – Arsenal Favourites Ahead Of Man Utd To Sign £17m Star

The summer transfer window is just around the corner and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Sokratis Papastathopoulos….

Sokratis Papastathopoulos has offers to come to England with Arsenal favourites ahead of Manchester United to sign the Borussia Dortmund defender, according to reports in Germany via TeamTalk.

Papastathopoulos has been a key player since joining Dortmund from Werder Bremen five years ago and he’s racked up almost 200 appearances in all competitions to help win two domestic cups.

However, the Greek international’s future at the Westfalonstadion is in serious doubt as he has just one year remaining on his contract and he’s expected to leave this summer after failing to agree terms over an extension.

The situation has alerted clubs here in the Premier League and TeamTalk are citing a report from Kicker that claims Papastathopoulos already has several offers on the table from English clubs.

The report says Manchester United have shown an interest in signing the 29-year-old with Jose Mourinho looking to strengthen his defensive options as he tries to build a squad capable of competing with Manchester City.

The Red Devils have also been strongly linked with Toby Alderweireld but Kicker, via TeamTalk, suggests Mourinho will turn his attention to Papastathopoulos if they fail to land the Tottenham centre-back.

However, they may be too late as the German publication claims Arsenal are in pole position to sign Papastathopoulos for around £17m this summer as the Gunners look to rebuild in the post-Arsene Wenger era.

A new central defender to tighten-up their leaky defence is desperately needed and Bild reported last month that Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat was in talks with Papastathopoulos’ agent Konstantinos Farras.

Mislintat was the man to help sign the Greek star for Dortmund during his time in Germany and it seems he’s trying to be reunited with the defender in north London this summer.
