Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has confirmed interest from England amid reports he’s in talks over a potential £40m move to Manchester United
The summer transfer window is about to open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Fred….
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has confirmed interest from England amid reports he’s in talks over a potential £40m move to Manchester United, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Fred has been in excellent form since joining Shakhtar from Internacional in 2013 and he’s been named in the Brazil preliminary squad ahead of this summers World Cup finals.
The 25-year-old’s impressive performances have also caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as Manchester United and Manchester City have been strongly linked with a move in recent months.
It looks like United are closing-in on a deal as TeamTalk carried a report earlier this week claiming that the Red Devils are in talks with Fred’s agents about a potential £40m move to Old Trafford this summer.
The South American star has fuelled that speculation after confirming interest from England [and France] – although he stops short of naming any of the interested parties.
Fred says that although he’s content at Shakhtar, he admits he wants to take the next step in his career and will hold talks with the Ukrainian giants to discuss his future after the World Cup.
He’s quoted by the MEN as saying:
“I’m very happy at Shakhtar. I’ve been working well here but it has been five years.
“I made it clear to the club that I was very happy here but I want to make a bigger leap in my career. There are other clubs interested in England and France. I want to make a bigger leap, I made it clear to the club.
“Now I just have to wait to get through the World Cup and see which is the best destination. I think I have to change a little. I have dreams of playing in major clubs in Europe. I made it clear that it’s my moment.
“The club are reluctant to release (me). I have a contract until 2021. As soon as I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.”
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but Jose Mourinho is in the market for midfield reinforcements this summer and it seems Fred is a prime target.

Michael Carrick has retired while Marouane Fellaini could leave on a free transfer after failing to sign a new deal so Mourinho needs at least one new midfielder and Fred would be an excellent addition if they could lure him to Old Trafford.
