Arsenal In Talks With Agent But Chelsea Could Hijack Proposed £40m Deal

By on May 16, 2018

The summer transfer window is about to open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Jean-Michael Seri…

Arsenal are in talks with Jean-Michael Seri’s agent about a possible £40m move but the Nice midfielder favours a switch to Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard.

Seri has been a star performer for Nice since joining the club from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and the all-round midfielder has also established himself in the Ivory Coast national team.

The 26-year-old’s excellent performances in the middle of the park have caught the attention of clubs in the Premier League as the Evening Standard claims that Arsenal and Chelsea have both expressed their interest.

The newspaper says Arsenal are currently pushing hardest to get a deal agreed with director of football Raul Sanllehi holding talks with Seri’s representatives about a possible £40m move to the Emirates.

Sanllehi played a key role in trying to take the midfielder to Barcelona last summer and it looks like he’s now hoping to make Seri Arsenal’s first summer signing having joined the Gunners hierarchy in February.

The north Londoners are ready to revamp their squad in the post-Arsene Wenger era and a midfielder is on the agenda as Jack Wilshere is yet to sign a new contract while Aaron Ramsey’s future is also in doubt.

Seri would add some energy to Arsenal’s side if they can get a deal agreed, however, that may prove difficult as the Evening Standard claims the Ivorian would prefer a move to Chelsea.

The Blues are contemplating a swoop of their own for Seri having tracked him for some time and the report says he sees joining Chelsea as a more attractive proposition than Arsenal.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Chelsea decide to step-up their interest and try to hijack Arsenal’s move but for now it looks like the Gunners are leading the chase for Seri’s signature.
