Arsenal Ready To Sign £35m International Star As Part Of Big-Money Triple Swoop

Arsenal are ready to complete a triple swoop for Caglay Soyuncu, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Bernd Leno that will set us back around £75m

The summer transfer window is about to open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are ready to splash the cash…

Arsenal are ready to complete a triple swoop for Caglay Soyuncu, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Bernd Leno that will set us back around £75m, according to the Sun.

We are yet to announce who will be replacing Arsene Wenger as manager but head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is still pressing ahead the clubs summer transfer business.

Tightening up our leaky defence is a priority as we shipped a whopping 51 goals in the Premier League last season – 69 in all competitions – so big changes are needed at the back.

Per Mertesacker has retired, Laurent Koscielny is facing six months on the sidelines following Achilles surgery and Shkodran Mustafi is being tipped for a move after failing to impress since joining the club two years ago.

That means we need to bring in two new central defenders this summer and the Sun claims we’re closing-in on deals to sign Soyuncu and Papastathopoulos.

Soyuncu has starred for Freiburg over the past two seasons and is now an established member of the Turkish national team which has led to interest from several European clubs.

However, the Sun says Arsenal have won the race for the 21-year-old’s signature and are expected to wrap-up a deal worth around £35m for Soyuncu over the coming weeks.

Papastathopoulos also looks to be on his way to north London as the Greek international is set to leave Borussia Dortmund after refusing to sign a new contract extension.

The 29-year-old has just one year left on his current deal and Dortmund have decided to cash-in rather than lose him for nothing in 12 months time, and the newspaper says Arsenal will snap him up for just £15m.

Mislintat played a key role in taking Papastathopoulos to Dortmund in 2013 so he knows the defender well and it looks like the pair are set to be reunited at the Emirates this summer.

Arsenal are also in the market for a new No.1 as Petr Cech is coming towards the end of his career while David Ospina is being tipped to leave after failing to establish himself at the club.

Leno had emerged as a prime target in recent weeks and the Sun claims Arsenal are ready to complete a deal worth around £25m to sign the Bayer Leverkusen stopper.

The German international has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Bundesliga over recent years and at just 26-years-old, he’d be the ideal long-term replacement for Cech.

So it seems Arsenal are close to securing three deals worth around £75m – although the transfers are unlikely to be wrapped-up until our new manager has been formally announced.
