Manchester United Agree £43.8m Deal To Sign South American Star

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign midfielder Fred in a £43.8m deal this summer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Fred….

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign midfielder Fred in a £43.8m deal this summer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Fred has proven to be an excellent signing for Shakhtar since joining the club from Internacional in 2013 and he’s been named in the Brazil squad ahead of this summers World Cup finals.

The 25-year-old’s impressive form has also caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as Manchester City were strongly linked in January while United have expressed their interest in recent months.

The Guardian claim that United are closing-in on a deal to sign Fred after holding extensive talks with Shakhtar and the players representatives about a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The newspaper says United have focussed their attention on signing the South American star after baulking at Lazio’s £87.4m asking price for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – who’s also been touted as a prime target.

Sky Italia and Sky Sports journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, goes one further as he claims that United have now reached an agreement with the Ukrainian champions to sign Fred in a deal worth around £43.8m [€50m].

Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one central midfielder after Michael Carrick retired while Marouane Fellaini is close to leaving the club after failing to agree terms over a new contract.

Fred is predominantly a defensive midfielder so he’d be the ideal replacement for Carrick but he can also play at left-back if needed so I’m sure his versatility would appeal to Mourinho.

The United boss knows he needs to strengthen his squad if they’re to catch City next season and the capture of Fred would be an excellent start to their summer transfer business if they manage to get this proposed deal over the line.
