Arsenal In Talks To Sign £22m Sampdoria Star As Emery Eyes Double Swoop

By on May 24, 2018

The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with two midfielders…

Arsenal are in talks with Dennis Praet’s agent about a possible £25m move while AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini is also being targetted by new boss Unai Emery, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Emery was unveiled as Arsene Wenger’s replacement on Wednesday and the Spaniard is wasting no time in trying to strengthen his squad ahead of his debut season in English football.

We need to revamp our midfield as Santi Cazorla is set to leave the club while Jack Wilshere’s future is also in serious doubt as his contract expires next month and he’s yet to agree terms over an extension.

It looks like Emery has his targets in mind as Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Arsenal are eyeing a swoop for Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer.

The report says Emery is hoping to use his relationship with Roma sporting director Monchi to help open formal negotiations as the pair know each other well from their time together at Sevilla.

Pellegrini progressed through the Roma youth set-up and is now a regular in the first team squad having made 37 appearances in all competitions last season while he’s also been capped at senior level by Italy.

The 21-year-old is predominantly a central midfielder but he’s capable of playing out on the wings if needed so his versatility would be a useful asset if Arsenal were able to lure him to the Emirates.

Di Marzio also claims that Arsenal are in talks with Dennis Praet’s agent about a possible move to north London just 2 years after he joined Sampdoria from Anderlecht.

The Italian journalist says Arsenal are considering paying the 24-year-old’s £22m release clause but could face competition from the likes of Juventus, Roma, Inter Milan and Napoli – although none of those clubs have opened talks yet.

Di Marzio says Arsenal could be viewing Praet as an alternative to Pellegrini or we may look to sign both players as part of a double swoop – presumably if Wilshere follows Cazorla out the exit door.

Praet has impressed at Sampdoria over the past two seasons and he’s also a full international with the Belgian squad so he’d be an exciting addition to the squad if we could get a deal agreed for his signature.
