South American Star Confirms “Advanced Talks” With Man Utd Over Possible £52m Move
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has confirmed talks with Manchester United are at an advanced stage over a potential £52m move this summer
The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Fred….
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has confirmed talks with Manchester United are at an advanced stage over a potential £52m move this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Fred has been one of Shakhtar’s best players since joining the club from Internacional in 2013 and his impressive form has led to a call-up to the Brazil squad ahead of this summers World Cup finals.
The 25-year-old has also caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as Manchester City came close to signing Fred in January while Manchester United have emerged as the front-runners for his signature in recent months.
Reports earlier this week suggested that the Red Devils are closing-in on a deal to make Fred their first signing of the summer with the MEN claiming that the players agents are currently in England to continue negotiations.
The newspaper says Fred seems destined to join United and will be available to conduct a medical next week as he’s due to play for Brazil in a friendly at Anfield – which is just 29 miles from United’s Carrington training base.
Fred has now confirmed there is ‘strong’ interest from United and talks are at an advanced stage but the South American suggests he’ll wait until after the World Cup before finalising any move away from Shakhtar this summer.
The midfielder is quoted as saying by the MEN:
“There have been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City,”
“Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents. And today, if I’m not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United.
“My head is in the World Cup. My agents are taking care of it. I try to do my work in the field and leave the extra field for Gilberto Silva. My staff are looking at what is best for me. Who knows after the World Cup I can make the best choice for me.”
Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one new central midfielder as Michael Carrick has retired while Marouane Fellaini is being tipped to leave on a free transfer after failing to agree terms over a new contract.

It seems Fred is being lined-up by United as a possible replacement but the MEN says they may have to meet his £52m release clause as Shakhtar are reluctant to let him go for anything less.
