The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are close to signing Stephan Lichtsteiner….
Arsenal have agreed a deal in principal to sign Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus as Unai Emery prepares to secure his first summer signing, according to the Metro.
Our new head coach was announced as Arsene Wenger’s replacement last week and he’s already working hard to strengthen the squad as we look to break back in to the top four next season.
A new right-back is a priority as we’ve been far too reliant on Hector Bellerin with the Spanish international making 46 appearances last season and he played more minutes [4,131] than any other player.
So we desperately need someone to help ease the load and Lichtsteiner emerged as a target late last week with widespread reports suggesting the experienced full-back had flown in to London for talks.
The Metro claim Lichtsteiner visited London Colney on Friday to hold talks with Arsenal where he expressed his desire to make a move to north London following seven years at Juventus.
It seems those negotiations were a success as the newspaper is now citing a report from Gianluca Di Marzio that claims Arsenal have an agreement in place with the 34-year-old ahead of a free transfer move.
Lichtsteiner is set to leave Juve in search of a new challenge when his contract expires on July 1st and the Italian journalist says he wants to wrap-up his move to the Emirates before the start of the World Cup finals.
The right-back is expected to captain Switzerland over in Russia and it looks like he’ll be representing Arsenal with the player set to become Emery’s first signing of the summer window.

Our new coach reportedly has a modest budget of around £50m so it will be a shrewd piece of business to sign Lichtsteiner on a free transfer as it will leave the kitty intact to strengthen other areas of the squad.
