Manchester United are eyeing Jack Grealish as Jose Mourinho prepares to splash £94m on Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Shakhtar Dontesk star Fred
The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest Manchester United news….
Manchester United are eyeing Jack Grealish as Jose Mourinho prepares to splash £94m on Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Shakhtar Dontesk midfielder Fred, according to the Sun.
Mourinho knows he needs to strengthen his squad if United are able to compete with the likes of Manchester City for top honours next season and a new defensive midfielder is a priority.
Michael Carrick has retired and Marouane Fellaini is expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next month so Mourinho needs at least one midfielder and Fred is a top target.
The 25-year-old has been a key player for Shakhtar over the past five years but the Brazilian international is ready for a new challenge and the Sun claims United are set to wrap-up a £44m deal before the World Cup.
Fred is due to play for Brazil in a pre-tournament friendly against Croatia at Anfield on Sunday so that could be the ideal opportunity for the midfielder to visit Carrington to complete his move while he’s in the north-west.
Mourinho is also in the market for another centre-back with the future’s of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly in doubt and Alderweireld has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The Belgian international is being tipped to leave Tottenham after failing to agree terms over a new contract and he struggled to force his way back in to Mauricio Pochettino’s first team during the second half of last season.
The Sun claims United are now hoping to secure a £50m deal to sign the 29-year-old with Spurs tipped to cash-in this summer before Alderweireld’s value begins to drop.
Fred and Alderweirled would be two excellent signings who would immediately strengthen United’s first team so it would be £94m well spent if they could get the two deals over the line.
However, it seems Mourinho is also planning for the future as the newspaper says United are also keeping a close eye on Aston Villa youngster Jack Grealish ahead of a possible swoop.
The 22-year-old played a key role in Villa’s promotion push before they fell short having lost in the play-off final to Fulham at the weekend so Grealish is preparing for another year in the Championship.
