Player Set To Undergo Man Utd Medical, Contract Terms Agreed Ahead Of £21m Move

Diogo Dalot is set to undergo his medical with Manchester United after agreeing contract terms ahead of a £21m move from Porto

The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Diogo Dalot…

Diogo Dalot is set to undergo his medical with Manchester United after agreeing contract terms ahead of a £21m move from Porto, according to A Bola via Bleacher Report.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new right-back as Matteo Darmian is expected to move back to Italy this summer while Antonio Valencia turns 33 in August so a long-term replacement is needed.

Several names have been lined with a move to Old Trafford in recent months but Dalot emerged as a surprise target with the Telegraph reporting earlier this week that United had agreed to pay his £17.4m release clause.

However, Bleacher Report are citing reports coming from A Bola that claim United have now been forced to pay a premium to secure Dalot’s signature after Barcelona and Bayern Munich also expressed their interest in meeting the full-backs exit fee.

The report says United have now agreed to pay Porto £21m to seal a deal and the 19-year-old is expected to undergo his medical in the coming days after agreeing terms over a five-year contract.

It remains to be seen how much truth there is behind these reports coming out of Portugal as there is so much speculation flying about surrounding this proposed deal but it does look like United are closing-in on their first summer signing.

Dalot has been on Porto’s books his entire career having come through their youth system and he’s represented Portugal at various youth levels from U15 through to U21 so he seems to have a bright future ahead of him.

The teenager is predominantly a right-back so he’ll provide competition for Valencia but he’s also capable of playing on the left side of defence so his versatility will be a useful asset for Mourinho.

Dalot has only got 8 first team appearances to his name so it would be a surprise is he was a regular at United next season but I think he’ll learn the ropes from Valencia over the next year with a view to taking over in the 2019/20 campaign.
