The summer transfer window is now open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the chase for Caglar Soyuncu hots-up…
Liverpool have joined Arsenal and Manchester United in the chase to sign £35m-rated Freiburg centre-back Caglar Soyuncu this summer, according to Football London.
Soyuncu has been a stand-out performer for Freiburg since joining the club from Altınordu in the summer of 2016 and he’s also now an established member of the Turkish national team.
The 22-year-old’s potential has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as Football London reported last week that Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs to have expressed their interest.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly in the market for a new centre-back as he looks to build a squad capable of competing with Manchester City for the Premier League title next season and Soyuncu is seemingly on United’s radar.
Arsenal have been touted as the front-runners for the Turkish star as Unai Emery tries to tighten up the defence he inherited from Arsene Wenger and Soyuncu has emerged as a prime target.
The defender recently confirmed the Gunners’ interest in signing him and called the north Londoners ‘one of the most important clubs in England’ but insists his future won’t be resolved until he returns from international duty.
Soyuncu told Football London last week:
“Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England. I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalized yet about my transfer. After the national team camp we’ll have talks.”
However, it looks like Arsenal and United have fresh competition as Football London are reporting that Liverpool have now joined the chase to sign Soyuncu this summer.
The outlet says Jurgen Klopp’s scouts were in attendance to watch the young centre-back during Turkey’s 1-1 friendly draw with Russia last night as they weigh-up a move.
Soyuncu’s agent has previously confirmed the player is keen to play in England but it remains to be seen whether the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool or United will pay Freiburg’s £35m asking price [via Football London].
