Arsenal Agree £16m Deal To Land Bundesliga Star, Player To Sign Three-Year Contract

Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos for £16m and the defender is set to pen a three-year deal at the Emirates

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest new on Sokratis Papastathopoulos to Arsenal

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos for £16m and the defender is set to pen a three-year deal at the Emirates, according to the Telegraph.

Sokratis has been a key part of the Dortmund defence since joining the club from Werder Bremen five years ago but his future at the Bundesliga giants has been in serious doubt in recent months.

The Greek international has just one year remaining on his contract and he’s refused to sign an extension so Dortmund have decided to cash-in while they can still command a decent fee.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 29-year-old and Sokratis’ father, Charalambos, confirmed earlier this week that his son was set for a move to north London after snubbing Manchester United.

It looks like the transfer is now close as the Telegraph claim that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Dortmund over a £16m deal and  Sokratis is set to sign a three-year deal at the Emirates.

The newspaper says Sokratis will become Emery’s second major signing of the summer following the arrival of Stephan Lichsteiner from Juventus but the transfer may not be officially announced until next month.

No reason is given in the report for the delay but it looks like Arsenal have another experienced defender on the way as Unai Emery continues to overhaul our back four this summer.

Per Mertesacker has retired and we’ll be without Laurent Koscielny for the first half of next season due to injury so we needed to bring in at least one new centre-back and it seems Sokratis is the man Emery has gone for.

The Greek star is a powerful defender so he should have no trouble adapting to life in England and I think he’ll be a solid addition to the squad once we finally unveil him as our latest new signing.
