Agent Confirms Arsenal Are In Advanced Talks To Sign £35m Liverpool Target
Caglar Soyuncu’s agent has confirmed that Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign the Freiburg centre-back ahead of Liverpool this summer
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Caglar Soyuncu…
Caglar Soyuncu’s agent has confirmed that Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign the Freiburg centre-back ahead of Liverpool this summer, according to the Express.
Soyuncu has excelled for Freiburg since joining the club from Altınordu in the summer of 2016 and he’s also now an established member of the Turkish national team.
The 22-year-old has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League with Football London reporting last week that Liverpool had joined Arsenal in the race to sign the talented defender.
Freiburg aren’t prepared to let their star man leave on the cheap as the report says they’ve slapped a £35m price-tag on his head but that won’t deter the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool due to their financial firepower.
It looks like the Gunners are in pole position as Soyuncu’s agent, Mustafa Dogru, has now confirmed that he’s in advanced with Arsenal after head of recruitment Sven Mislintat identified him as a prime target.
Dogru says all that remains is for Arsenal to agree a fee but they could yet face stiff competition as he hinted that Liverpool have also held talks along with a number of other English clubs.
In addition, the agent says Atletico Madrid and clubs from France, Italy and Germany are also tracking Soyuncu but Dogru is convinced his clients attributes are ideally suited to playing in the Premier League.
The agent is quoted by the Express as telling Turkish-Football:
“Sven Mislintat has been keen on Caglar since he was at Borussia Dortmund. He first scouted him back in Germany. Sven is interested in Caglar. There are concrete talks, all that remains is for a fee to be agreed. We will see what happens next.
“What I will say regarding the Liverpool link is that there were four to five Premier League clubs scouting him over the international break.
“There are four Premier League sides who’ve made a move for Soyuncu, that we are in talks with. There is also interest from Atletico Madrid in Spain and a few clubs in France, Italy and Germany.
“I’m not surprised by the interest, Caglar is a modern defender, he’s mobile, fast, dual-footed, has an excellent passing range. He’s tough and very physical, I think the Premier League is ideal for a defender with his attributes.
“Freiburg has been a great experience for Caglar, the manager has done a terrific job taking him to the next level. I think he is ready now for a new challenge but we will see what happens.”
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for another centre-back as he looks to find a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk and it appears Soyuncu is on the Liverpool manager’s radar this summer.
However, it seems Arsenal are leading the chase for the youngster as Unai Emery looks to revamp his newly-inherited squad and tighten a back four that conceded 51 league goals last season.
The north Londoners have already signed right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus and Emery may see Soyuncu as a long-term replacement for Per Mertesacker following his retirement.
