Man Utd On Verge Of Agreeing £70m Deal As Mourinho Closes-In On Top Target

Manchester United are on the verge of striking a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld this summer as they prepare to meet Tottenham’s £70m asking price

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are closing-in on Toby Alderweireld…

Manchester United are on the verge of striking a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld this summer as they prepare to meet Tottenham’s £70m asking price, according to a report by TeamTalk.

Jose Mourinho knows he has to strengthen his squad this summer if United are to compete with the likes of Manchester City for the title after finishing 19 points adrift of their rivals last season.

A new centre-back is understood to be a priority as Mourinho wants to find a long-term partner for Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof has been strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent days.

Alderweireld has been widely touted as Mourinho’s main transfer target with the Telegraph reporting last week that United were focussing their attention on landing the Spurs star after wrapping-up a deal to sign Fred.

TeamTalk claim the Red Devils were hoping to secure a deal worth £55m for Alderweireld but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been playing hard ball despite the fact the centre-back has just one year remaining on his contract.

Spurs have the option to trigger a one-year extension but that deal would include a clause allowing Alderweireld to leave for just £25m in 2019 so the north Londoners are prepared to cash-in while they can still command a sizeable fee.

TeamTalk are now citing a report from Belgian outlet Het Laatste that claims United are on the verge of agreeing to meet Tottenham’s £70m asking price and a deal could be wrapped up ‘in the coming days’.

Alderweireld is set to fly out for the World Cup finals this week so United will have to get the transfer sealed soon as Belgian boss Roberto Martinez won’t want the player distracted by transfer business in Russia.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but I think Alderweireld would be an excellent signing for United if they manage to get a deal agreed with Tottenham.

I really don’t understand his man called Mourinho. Anderwield for 70million…hell no!
He’s 29 and has injury record..plays behind Sanchez and Dier in his current club. Why then should Mourinho price him more than 20mil?
Bale too? United should get Zaha and Memphis back instead of Bale and Ronaldo

Spurs would never accept 20M. It was only the last season that picked up the injury. After that, he didn’t want to sign another contract, so Poch didn’t play him much. Spurs can play him for another year and still get 25M then. No way that Spurs accept 20M for Toby now.

Your reply is emotional and a little silly. It ignores the reality that Tottenham can still play Alderweireld for another season and then sell him for AT LEAST £5m more than you are suggesting! He’s arriving at his peak, now and is primed to play a major role for Belgium, at the World Cup – especially given doubts about the fitness of Vincent Kompany. As a Spurs fan, I’d rather we keep him – he’s that good. If Levy is intent on selling him, as per Pochettino’s instructions, he has a duty to get as much as possible for him – more so, if he leaves to strengthen a top 4 rival. A zero sum equation could be, Toby to Man Utd, Rashford and Martial to Tottenham.

I couldn’t agree more with you. Thanks for speaking my mind. I dont see him as an improvement on Jones, Baily, etc. And instead of wasting funds on players in their early 30s and late 20s we are better of signing the likes of Dressler

I think memphis should come back to old Trafford. He is a good player and for Anderwield, that is not the player man utd need now.i believe mourinho should wait after the world cup he can get a better central defense.

He’s a good defender but he has come of age too. £70m for a 29 year old dude is crazy. why not go for Maquinhos.

why going for a player of that age?He wants to sale all the united future players and leave us with Ancient players who have just 3to4years in their respective contracts
is better For him to be sacked and get a better coach may be from LA liga,he’s so so annoying I must confess.take a look at that same Tottenham, they have young players and city attack lines are more of young dudes while Man u have players of 29 and above
