The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Ousmane Dembele….
Liverpool are being tipped to sign Ousmane Dembele on an initial two-year loan deal after Barcelona agreed to let the attacker leave this summer, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Dembele developed in to one of the most exciting young wingers in European football during his time at Borussia Dortmund and that led to a move to Barca last summer worth an initial €100m [£88m].
However, the 21-year-old’s time at the Nou Camp hasn’t gone to plan as he missed a large part of last season with a hamstring injury and he struggled to force his way back in to Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven when he returned to fitness. Dembele started just 12 La Liga games last season and it’s led to speculation he could be on the move this summer with Football London reporting earlier this month that Arsenal have held talks with his representatives about a move to the Emirates.
New Arsenal boss Unai Emery needs to strengthen his squad if they’re to compete for the top four next season and a player of Dembele’s quality would certainly add an extra threat to their attacking options if they could lure him to north London.
However, it looks like Liverpool are now in pole position to sign Dembele as TeamTalk are reporting that the Merseysiders are set to sign the French international on an initial two-year loan deal after Barca agreed to let the attacker leave this summer.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for attacking reinforcements as he’s yet to sign a replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his move to Catalan in January and Dembele could be viewed as an alternative to Nabil Fekir.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with the French international in recent weeks but a deal with Lyon appears to have stalled so Klopp could have turned his attention to signing Dembele instead and a deal appears to be close.
If the two-year loan goes through then Dembele will provide stiff competition for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at Anfield next season and improve what is already one of the best attacks in European football.
