Real Madrid star Marco Asensio is eyeing a move to the Premier League this summer and favours a switch to Chelsea over Manchester United, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Asensio joined Madrid from Mallora in 2014 and he’s developed in to one of the most exciting young attackers in European football over the past few years while he’s also established himself in the Spanish national team having been named in their World Cup squad.
However, the 22-year-old has failed to hold down a regular place as he only started 19 La Liga games last season and speculation has suggested he could be on the move this summer as new boss Julen Lopetegui plans to bring in some major signings.
TeamTalk claim the former Spain boss wants to take Brazilian sensation Neymar to the Bernabeu as his marquee signing and Asensio is concerned his arrival would push him even further down the pecking order.
The report cites El Gol Digital as saying that Asensio is already considering a move to the Premier League with Chelsea and Man Utd both keen to offer him a fresh start here in England.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to further strengthen his squad as he looks to put-in a serious title challenge next season having finished 19 points behind Man City and a player like Asensio could add the spark that was lacking in the final third at times last year.
However, TeamTalk says that while United are showing the most serious interest in the Spaniard, Asensio favours a move to London which puts Chelsea in pole position to sign him if the youngster does leave Madrid this summer.
It remains to be seen how the Blues’ current managerial situation could scupper any potential move for Asensio as Chelsea continue to be linked with Maurizio Sarri as a possible successor to Antonio Conte – who’s being tipped to leave after missing out on the top four last season.
I’m sure whoever is in charge at Stamford Bridge would love to have Asensio at their disposal but his signing isn’t going to be easy as TeamTalk claims that Madrid have already rejected £131m for his signature so Chelsea and United are going to need to pay HUGE money to stand a chance of landing him.
