Arsenal & Chelsea Cleared To Sign International Star In £35m Deal
Arsenal and Chelsea are free to sign Jean-Michael Seri after his agent confirmed Napoli are unlikely to bid for the £35m-rated Nice star
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the chase hots-up for Jean-Michael Seri….
Arsenal and Chelsea are free to battle-it-out over the signing of Jean-Michael Seri after his agent confirmed Napoli are unlikely to bid for the £35m-rated Nice star, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Seri has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he’s also racked up 16 caps for the Ivory Coast national team. The 26-year-old was virtually ever-present last season as he provided 2 goals and 10 assists to help Nice finish 8th in the Ligue 1 table.
His performances have caught the attention of teams in the Premier League with TeamTalk claiming that Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs to have expressed their interest in recent months as the London giants look to strengthen their midfield options this summer.
Seri has also been linked with a switch to Napoli but Arsenal and Chelsea have now been handed a major boost with the midfielder’s agent, Franklin Mala, denying there has been any contact with the Italians.
Mala admits Seri would be open to discussions should Napoli formalise their interest but says that’s unlikely given the Serie A outfit are reportedly set to sign Real Betis star Fabian Ruiz.
Seri’s agent is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“Seri to Napoli? It doesn’t depend on us but on Napoli. I read that Napoli are signing Fabian Ruiz, so if they sign the Spaniard, it’ll be difficult to sign Seri too,”
“We’re open to talks with Napoli, but there’s been nothing so far. Seri’s clause is €40m and it’s valid until July 15. After that, Nice can ask for the amount they want.”
This news will be of interest to Arsenal and Chelsea as they are now clear to battle-it-out over a deal to sign Seri and his £35m [€40m] release clause is well within the reach of both clubs.
Arsenal are in the market for midfield reinforcements and are expected to sign Sampdoria star Lucas Torreira but with Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere leaving this summer, Unai Emery could be on the look out for two central midfielders and Seri is seemingly on his radar.
However, Chelsea will provide stiff competition as they are also set to revamp their midfield options and the Blues could view Seri as a potential replacement for Danny Drinkwater – who’s expected to leave Stamford Bridge following a frustrating debut season having joined from Leicester last summer.
It’s going to be interesting to see how things develop over the coming weeks but Arsenal may feel they have the edge over Chelsea as Gunners legend Patrick Vieira was recently appointed as the Nice manager so they’ll hope to use that relationship to their advantage in any talks for Seri.
