Arsenal Could Sign Bundesliga Star In £30m Deal, Player Confirms He Wants Move

Arsenal could sign Caglar Soyuncu in a £30m deal after the Freiburg defender confirmed he was keen on a move to the Emirates stadium this summer

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Arsenal pursuit of Caglar Soyuncu….

Caglar-Soyuncu-Arsenal

Arsenal could sign Caglar Soyuncu in a £30m deal after the Freiburg defender confirmed he was keen on a move to the Emirates stadium this summer, according to reports in Germany via the Daily Star.

Soyuncu has developed in to one of the most promising defenders in the Bundesliga since joining Freiburg from Altinordu in 2016 and he’s also a regular with the Turkish national team at international level The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months with head of recruitment Sven Mislintat reportedly keeping a close eye on his progress since his time at Borussia Dortmund.

New boss Unai Emery is keen to reshape the back four this summer and we’ve already snapped-up right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus while centre-back Sockratis Papastathopoulos is expected to arrive from Dortmund over the coming days.

However, with Per Mertesacker retired and Laurent Koscielny out for six months with an Achilles injury, Emery could be in the market for two central defenders and Soyuncu has been touted as a prime target.

The youngster admitted recently that he was hoping to secure a move to the Emirates as he wants to play in the Premier League but admitted the decision rests with Freiburg as he still has three years left on his contract.

Soyuncu is quoted as saying last week by Turkish newspaper Gunes:

“I hope I go to Arsenal. I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team.”

“I go to Arsenal. I want to play there, but everything is connected. Because I have a contract for 3 more years.”

The defenders agent Mustafa Dogru also fuelled the speculation after claiming that Arsenal were in ‘concrete talks’ to sign the Turkish star and all that remained was a for fee to be agreed.

Dogru is quoted by the Express as saying earlier this month:

“Sven Mislintat has been keen on Caglar since he was at Borussia Dortmund. He first scouted him back in Germany. Sven is interested in Caglar.

“There are concrete talks, all that remains is for a fee to be agreed. We will see what happens next.

The Daily Star are citing a report from Sky Germany that claims Arsenal should be able to persuade Freiburg to lower their asking price from the £35m they’ve been quoting to £30m, so it appeared a deal could be on the cards.

However, Dogru has now contradicted his earlier statement by saying that although Mislintat is a fan of Soyuncu, Arsenal are not in formal talks over a possible move to north London.

Dogru is quoted by the Daily Star as saying:

“Arsenal have not held official talks with us, Sven Mislintat is keen on him but we are currently not in direct negotiations with the club.

“We have made it clear to Freiburg that Caglar wants to leave over the summer. Freiburg are happy to go ahead with a transfer but only for the right price. Playing in the Premier League is what most footballers aim for.”

Who knows what’s going on. The agent could be using Arsenal’s name to generate interest in his client or we may have a genuine interest in signing Soyuncu but we’ll just have to see how things progress over the coming weeks.
