Man Utd Trying To Hijack Liverpool’s Proposed Deal To Sign £100k-A-Week Star

Manchester United are trying to hijack Liverpool’s proposed move to sign Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri in a £12m deal this summer

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd join Liverpool in the race to sign Xherdan Shaqiri…

Manchester United are trying to hijack Liverpool’s proposed move to sign Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri in a £12m deal this summer, according to reports via TeamTalk.

Shaqiri made his name at Basel after coming through their youth system before making a move to Bayern Munich in 2012 and he won a whole host of trophies during his time in Germany including 2 Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

A nightmare 6-month spell at Inter Milan led to Shaqiri joining Stoke in 2015 and the Switzerland international has rediscovered some of his best form during his time at the Bet365 Stadium having provided 15 goals and 15 assists in his 92 appearances for the Potters.

However, the attacker wasn’t able to prevent Stoke from being relegated to the Championship last season after they finished 19th in the Premier League and Shaqiri has made it clear his future now lies elsewhere.

TeamTalk claim Shaqiri has a £12m relegation release clause in his contract so understandably there is plenty of interest being shown in the attacker as that would represent an absolute bargain in today’s market.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for the 26-year-old and the Independent reported last week that the Merseysiders were expected to confirm the arrival of Shaqiri after he’d finished representing Switzerland at the World Cup.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for attacking reinforcements as he needs more depth behind the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane next season if Liverpool are to compete on all fronts and Shaqiri would be a solid addition to their squad.

However, it looks like Liverpool are facing stiff competition as TeamTalk are citing a report from the Sun that claims Man Utd have made a late swoop to try and hijack Shaqiri’s signature from under their rivals noses.

Jose Mourinho has already made three signings so far this summer but he knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if United are to compete with Man City for the title next season and Shaqiri could be viewed as a potential replacement for Anthony Martial – who’s been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

TeamTalk claim Shaqiri will demand wages of around £100,000-a-week – which won’t be an issue for either United or Liverpool – so it’s going to be interesting to see where the diminutive attacker ends up this summer.
