Star Flying To London To Seal £57.5m Chelsea Move As Chief Confirms Man City Snub
Jorginho is flying-in to London to complete a £57.5m move to Chelsea after Napoli’s president confirmed the midfielder has snubbed Manchester City
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Jorginho is set to join Chelsea over Manchester City…
Jorginho is flying-in to London to complete a £57.5m move to Chelsea after Napoli’s president confirmed the midfielder has snubbed Manchester City, according to the Express.
The Italian international has become one of the most sought after midfielders in European football over the past few years after starring for Napoli since joining the club from Verona in the summer of 2014. The 26-year-old played a key role in helping Maurizio Sarri’s side challenge Juventus for the Serie A title last season before they fell short at the final hurdle and his superb displays attracted interest from a whole host of Premier League clubs.
Man City emerged as the clear favourites for his signature and a move to Pep Guardiola’s side was reportedly on the verge of completion but the Express claim Chelsea have hijacked the deal after trumping their rivals with a higher offer worth £57.5m.
Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24 have footage of Jorginho at an airport on his way to London to complete his move to Stamford Bridge and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has now confirmed the midfielder has opted to join Chelsea over City.
De Laurentiis also revealed that a deal for Sarri to become Chelsea’s new manager is close to completion but he insists Jorginho would have moved to London even without his former boss.
The Napoli chief is quoted by the Express as saying:
“The [Maurizio] Sarri deal is in the homestretch, it depends on him. Sarri is close to be new Chelsea manager.”
“I’ve laid down my conditions. It’s all in the hands of lawyers. Jorginho? We said to ourselves, ‘If Jorginho has any requests, we’ll take them into account’.
“For that, I’ll have to apologise to Manchester City. However, if the player would rather live in London than Manchester, I can understand that.
“If Chelsea are paying him even more, I can understand that too. Jorginho and Sarri together again? Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri.”
Current Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been taking pre-season training this week but is now expected to leave his position as manager once the Sarri deal is finalised over the coming days.
Sarri is clearly already working on his transfer targets and it looks like he’s ready to bring Jorginho with him to Stamford Bridge having worked with the Brazilian-born midfielder at Napoli.
Chelsea have been tipped to buy a new central midfielder as Danny Drinkwater is expected to leave following a disappointing year in London and Jorginho is seemingly being brought in as a replacement.
There is still time for City to make a last gasp attempt to resurrect their deal but as it stands Chelsea are in pole position and I think Jorginho will be a superb signing if they can get it over the line.
