The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are set to sign Man Utd target Xherdan Shaqiri…
Liverpool have agreed a £13.75m deal to sign Manchester United target Xherdan Shaqiri with the Stoke City attacker set to undergo his medical on Merseyside today, according to the Daily Mail.
Shaqiri expressed his desire to leave the Bet365 Stadium this summer following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship after they finished 19th in the Premier League table last season and he’s attracted interest from all across Europe.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with Shaqiri in recent months and TeamTalk reported earlier this week that Manchester United had joined their rivals in the race to sign the Switzerland international.
Jose Mourinho has made three signings so far this summer but he’s expected to further strengthen his squad before the start of the new season and Shaqiri may have been lined-up as a potential replacement for Anthony Martial amid speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford.
However, Man Utd will have to look elsewhere as the Daily Mail are one of several outlets reporting that Liverpool have now agreed a deal to sign Shaqiri after triggering his £13.75m relegation release clause.
The newspaper says the 26-year-old was keen to work under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield so has snubbed all interest to join Liverpool and will undergo his medical today ahead of his bargain move.
Klopp has been in the market for attacking reinforcements as he’s yet to sign a replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his move to Barcelona in January and the Reds saw a move for Nabil Fekir collapse last month.
But it looks like Liverpool have finally got their hands on another attacker and as long as there are no late complications, Shaqiri will become Klopp’s third summer signing following the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho.
The former Basel star has played for Bayern Munich and Inter Milan so he has plenty of experience of top level football and he’ll provide competition for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in attack this coming season.
Shaqiri is expected to have his move wrapped-up in time for him to travel to the United States for Liverpool’s week-long pre-season tour that will see them take on Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United.
