The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Andre Gomes…

Arsenal are in talks with Barcelona over a possible bargain £17.7m deal to sign out-of-favour midfielder Andre Gomes this summer, according to a report by Football London.

Unai Emery has already made five new signings since replacing Arsene Wenger as manager with goalkeeper Bernd Leno, right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and centre-back Sokratis arriving along with midfield duo Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

However, Emery is being tipped to bring in a third new midfielder before the window closes after seeing Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla leave the club this summer and Gomes has emerged as a potential transfer target.

The 24-year-old is a product of the Benfica youth system but he made his name during an impressive two-year spell at Valencia which earned him a move to Barcelona in 2016 after he was lined-up as a long-term replacement for Xavi.

However, Gomes has struggled to establish himself at the Nou Camp as he’s failed to hold down a regular place under Ernesto Valverde and made just 6 La Liga starts last season.

The Portuguese international has admitted he’s endured a tough time since joining the Calatan giants and he’s expected to leave this summer after being left out of their pre-season tour squad ahead of their trip to America.

The situation has led to speculation linking Gomes with a move to the Emirates and Football London are now citing a report that originates from Sport that claims Barcelona have opened talks with Arsenal about a potential deal.

The Spanish publication says Barca are desperate to offload Gomes within the next week and are prepared to accept a bargain deal worth just £17.7m including bonuses for the talented midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be prepared to meet that asking price but it sounds like an excellent deal in today’s market so Gomes might be worth taking a risk on as he’d be a superb signing if we could get him back playing like he did during his days at Valencia.
