Liverpool are preparing for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker to undergo his medical after agreeing a deal worth around £67m for the Chelsea target, according to various reports today.

Jurgen Klopp has been in the market for a new No.1 all summer after losing faith in Loris Karius following his horror-show performance during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last season and Alisson has been touted as a prime target in recent months.

The Merseysiders formalised their interest on Tuesday with the Liverpool Echo one of several media outlets reporting that an opening £62m bid had been submitted that would see Liverpool pay £53m up front with a further £9m in add-ons.

That bid was rejected and the Mirror then reported that Chelsea were ready to try and hijack Liverpool’s proposed deal by launching a rival bid of their own with Maurizio Sarri reportedly phoning Alisson to try and lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are on the look out for a new goalkeeper amid strong speculation linking Thibaut Courtois with a move to Real Madrid with the Belgian international keen on a return to Spain after refusing to sign a new contract.

However, it looks like Chelsea are set to miss out on Alisson as the Guardian claim Liverpool have now returned with an improved offer worth £66.8m and are already making preparations for the player to undergo a medical.

This is backed-up by Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio who says the keeper is set to fly to England to have his medical over the coming days while Telegraph journalist Chris Bascombe says a deal worth in the region of £67m has now been agreed between the two clubs.

He tweeted:

Chelsea are yet to make any formal bid but they will have to act fast if they want to stand any chance of beating Liverpool to Alisson’s signature – although the reports suggest the Roma star has his heart set on a move to Anfield following talks with Klopp on Tuesday.

If Liverpool get this deal over the line it will be a world-record fee for a goalkeeper and the Brazilian international should prove to be an excellent purchase as he’s been one of the best stoppers in Europe since joining Roma from Inter Milan two years ago.
