Tottenham In Talks To Sign £30m Star As Pochettino Eyes 1st Summer Signing

Tottenham are in talks with Aston Villa over £30m-rated midfielder Jack Grealish as Mauricio Pochettino looks to land his first summer signing

The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham are in talks to sign Jack Grealish…

Tottenham are in talks with Aston Villa over £30m-rated midfielder Jack Grealish as Mauricio Pochettino looks to land his first summer signing, according to Sky Sports.

Pochettino has been extremely quiet in the transfer market so far having failed to secure any of his reported targets but the Spurs boss is keen to further strengthen his squad as he looks to turn the north Londoners in to genuine title contenders after finishing third in the Premier League last season.

A new midfielder is on the agenda as Mousa Dembele and Moussa Sissoko are being tipped to leave White Hart Lane over the coming weeks and Grealish has emerged as a prime target for Pochettino.

The 22-year-old has been with Villa his entire career having joined their youth ranks as a child and has developed in to a key player at Villa Park after playing a pivotal role in their promotion push last season.

However, after Villa lost out to Fulham in the play-off final, boss Steve Bruce admitted they would be forced to cash-in on Grealish due to the clubs financial difficulties that saw them on the brink of bankruptcy last month.

Bruce is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“We’re up against it, let’s be open and honest, we might have to make decisions that might not be easy, we have to generate some money,”

“Inevitably that is going to be player sales. There are going to be people that I do not want to sell – and the obvious one is Jack [Grealish] – but people will know that we have got financial problems and they’ll sit and wait, and wait, till Deadline Day possibly.

“I hope that doesn’t happen but we’ve got to batten down the hatches and wait for it.”

The situation has alerted Tottenham with widespread reports recently suggesting they are keen on Grealish and now Sky Sports claim Spurs are in talks with Villa about a potential deal for the midfielder.

The Mirror also claim that Tottenham are hoping to get a deal agreed before they leave for their pre-season tour this weekend but chairman Daniel Levy is determined to try and drive the price down.

Villa had initially valued Grealish at around £40m but Sky Sports suggest the figure could be nearer £30m while the Mirror says Spurs may be able to strike a deal even lower.

We’ll have to wait and see how things progress over the coming days but it seems inevitable that Tottenham will get a deal agreed and I think Grealish will be an exciting addition to their squad.

Star? In as much as Lamela, Sissoko and Llorente are ‘stars’ – they do not know where the goal is and would not recognise an assist if it passed them by in the street. We need proven players. Martial has a far better record in all departments. Would be twice the money. Well worth it. We do not not need more of these players with ‘potential’ who need ‘nurturing’. No thanks. If we really are to join the big boys on a long term basis we now have to think beyond these bit part players who really are not up to the job.

We also need English players because of the Champions league home grown rule. Strangely enough, Davies and Dier do not count toward our quota of 8 home grown players. So, we’ll need to transfer in at least one more English player in excess of foreign players transferred out. Grealish checks this box, and he’s young with some upside. We always seem to leave the summer transfer window late, and combined with Kane’s August lack of scoring record and an early end to the window means that getting this deal in the next few days would be a positive. As we say in the southern USA “the big dogs walk late”. I’m looking for a signing that will shatter the club record, but the big checkbook probably doesn’t come out for another 3 weeks.

Good points, especially about home grown players. Davies is home grown for PL purposes (but not for CL, as you state). The issue I have is squad players like Grealish being labelled as stars and creative geniuses, etc, etc. Show me some goals and assists and I’ll start believing it :>)

Janssen,Dembele,Toby,N’Kouda and perhaps Sissoko will leave perhaps,,so CL should be no problem.Grealish started at £15 mill, now talking near £30 mill. do we need another midfielder because he is NOT a Harry back up whereas Malcolm could be.We say here that the early bird gathers the wormsm mind you we have picked up some right maggots recently.

I expect to see us obtain Grealish but Levy will never pay more than 15M- probably closer to 10M. Grealish is a prospect – not a star n9or a “key” acquisition. If he comes Spurs will likely improve him a lot more than he improves them next season.
