The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Yann Sommer…
Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer as Unai Emery closes-in on his sixth summer signing, according to reports in Spain via the Mirror.
Emery has been extremely busy in the transfer market since replacing Arsene Wenger with Sokratis, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Bernd Leno all arriving in recent weeks to strengthen a squad that finished sixth in the Premier League last season.
Leno was snapped-up from Bayer Leverkusen in a reported £19m deal earlier this month with the German goalkeeper identified as the man to replace Petr Cech as Arsenal’s number one between the sticks this coming campaign.
Cech’s form dipped last year and the 36-year-old has been linked with a surprise return to Chelsea while David Ospina is also expected to leave the Emirates after failing to establish himself in recent years.
With two goalkeepers possibly heading for the exit door, it seems Emery is ready to dip back in to the market for another stopper and it looks like we’ve already identified the man we want.
The Mirror are citing Marca as saying that Arsenal are in advanced talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over a deal to sign Sommer as Emery feels the experienced keeper can push Leno this season.
The Spanish publication claims Barcelona have also identified the 29-year-old as a potential replacement for Jasper Cillessen as the Dutchman is set to leave in search of regular first team football.
However, Marca suggest that Barca will miss out as Sommer’s move to Arsenal is expected to be wrapped-up before Cillessen’s future at the Nou Camp is resolved so it seems we must be close to getting a deal completed.
Sommer joined Gladbach from Basel in 2014 and has been a reliable keeper between the sticks during his time in Germany while he excelled for Switzerland at the World Cup finals this summer.

No potential transfer fee is mentioned in the report but Sommer still has three year left on his contract so the Bundesliga outfit are under no pressure to sell on the cheap.
