Liverpool fans have been reacting on Twitter after Joel Matip suffered another injury blow during their 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the International Champions Cup on Sunday night.

The Reds arrived in the United States late last week to continue their pre-season preparations and they opened the scoring against Dortmund after Virgil van Dijk powered home a first half header.

However, the Bundesliga giants levelled things up through a Christian Pulisic penalty before the American international made it 2-1 in the 89th minute. A mistake from Loris Karius led to Jacob Larsen poking home a third in stoppage time to give Dortmund a 3-1 win at the Bank of America stadium.

The scoreline was a little harsh on Liverpool as they were the better side for long periods but there was even worse news for Matip as the centre-back limped off midway through the first half after picking up a muscle injury.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed after the game that the Cameroonian international looks to have suffered a ‘little tear’ but they should know more within the next 24 hours after Matip is assessed by the clubs medical team.

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:

“It’s not the same injury. It’s another muscle – it looks like, hopefully, only a little tear.

“We will see, but we cannot say anymore about it now. It is of course the most negative thing about the day. It’s not cool. Things like this can happen, but you don’t want them to.

“Maybe tomorrow or the day after tomorrow we will know more, but in this moment we only know that it was too painful for him to carry on.”

Matip has endured a frustrating last 12 months due to injury and the club would have been hoping for him to go in to the new season off the back of a full pre-season so this latest injury will be a blow.

Fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter with some calling Matip ‘Mr Glass’ while others have called on Klopp to sell the player and bring in a more reliable centre-back.

Here is what fans have been saying following the Matip injury news:
