Anthony Martial is ready to lock horns with Manchester United in order to force through a move to the likes of Tottenham or Chelsea this summer, according to the Sun.

Martial was once considered to be one of the most exciting young talents in world football when he joined Man Utd in 2015 from Monaco in a deal that could reach up to £57m and he enjoyed a positive start to life at Old Trafford under Louis van Gaal.

However, the attacker has struggled to establish himself under Jose Mourinho in the last two years and he was mainly used from the substitutes bench following Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal during the January window last season.

Martial started just 4 Premier League games during the second half of the campaign and was publicly criticised by Jose Mourinho at times leading to him being left out of the French squad for this summers World Cup finals.

It came as no surprise when Martial went public with his desire to leave Old Trafford in search of regular first team football and the Sun claims the attacker has made it clear to Mourinho that he wants to leave.

The newspaper says United are prepared to sell Martial abroad before the window closes, however, the player is ready to force through a move to a domestic rival as he’s desperate to remain in the Premier League.

The Sun claims that Tottenham and Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the situation and are ready to battle it out for Martial’s signature if the Frenchman successfully persuades United chiefs to let him stay in England.

Spurs have been extremely quiet in the market so far as they are yet to make a single major signing but Mauricio Pochettino is confident they will add to their squad over the coming weeks and a new attacker is on the agenda.

Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente are both being tipped to leave after struggling to make an impact in north London and Tottenham could be eyeing the versatile Martial as he’s able to play up front or on the wings.

However, Chelsea will provide stiff competition for the 22-year-old as they are on the look out for potential replacements for Willian amid speculation he wants to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it looks like Martial is on collision course with the United hierarchy and it would no doubt take a big offer from Spurs or Chelsea to tempt the Manchester giants to cash-in.

Sadly, we keep about who Spurs are going to buy. Firstly, it was they would make signings before the World Cup then
We look at a number of players but never make any move. This is typical of Levy last minute purchases.
Surely, the best 5hing to do is continue to pay all our stars top money as we appear to be doing.
We know that our top players work hard for each other and know each other another big plus.

Just pay our top players. And forget transfers.

It looks like Woodward’s timidity and reticence will not allow him to approach Tottenham so Martial won’t be going to Spurs and Alderweireld will be staying in north London. Bit of a shame. Mourinho was clear that he wanted Alderweireld and that Martial could leave.

Barca and Real Madrid used buy-back options in contracts when they sold players who were significantly under-performing but had the potential to flourish. Perhaps that is what United should do with Martial. It would remove a disgruntled player from the dressing room and bench and it would protect United’s investment.
