Man Utd Ready To Hijack Deal To Sign £27m South American Star

There is plenty of Manchester United gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the English giants linked with a whole host of star names. Today, United are linked with Yerry Mina…

Manchester United are prepared to match Everton’s £27m bid to sign Yerry Mina after identifying the Barcelona defender as a possible summer signing, according to reports via TeamTalk.

Jose Mourinho has admitted he’s keen to further strengthen his squad before the window shuts as Fred is the only new arrival that’s expected to be a first team regular as Lee Grant will be United’s third-choice goalkeeper while youngster Diogo Dalot is considered to be a player for the future.

A new central defender is on United’s agenda and the Manchester giants have been strongly linked with the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire in recent months but Tottenham and Leicester City are demanding big money for the defensive duo.

This has forced Mourinho to look in to alternative targets and TeamTalk are citing a report from RMC that claims United have now identified Mina as a potential singing this summer.

The 23-year-old joined Barcelona from Palmeiras for £10.5m in January but his time at the Nou Camp hasn’t gone according to plan as he’s struggled to force his way in to Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven.

Mina started just 2 games during the second half of last season with Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti the first choice pairing in the middle of defence and the South American failed to even make the bench most of the time.

The Colombian international showed what he’s capable of with some impressive performances at the World Cup and that led to interest from Everton with reports last week [via TeamTalk] claiming that a £27m deal was close.

However, the report is citing RMC as saying that Man Utd are now ready to hijack Everton’s proposed deal by matching their £27m bid and offering Mina the wages he wants to make a move to Old Trafford instead.

No doubt the defender would be tempted by the prospect of playing for a club like United so we could see him turning his back on Everton in favour of the Red Devils if they formalise their interest over the coming days.
