There is plenty of Manchester United gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the English giants linked with a whole host of star names. Today, United are closing-in on Chelsea star Willian….
Manchester United are closing-in on the signing of Willian after Chelsea accepted their latest £67m bid for the wantaway attacker, according to reports via TeamTalk.
United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to be active during the final stages of the window after admitting he’s like to bring in two more signings having been left frustrated by the clubs lack of success in the market with just three new faces arriving so far this summer.
The Red Devils have snapped-up third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant, young full-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred but the Brazilian international is the only one of the new recruits expected to be a first team regular this season so Mourinho is keen to further strengthen his ranks.
A new attacker is on the agenda as doubts continue over the future of Anthony Martial and Willian has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer to replace the wantaway French international.
Mourinho was the man to take Willian to Stamford Bridge in 2013 and he proved to be an excellent signing having provided 44 goals and 39 assists in his 236 appearances to help the Blues win 2 Premier League titles and 3 domestic cups.
However, the Brazilian attacker struggled to hold down a regular place under Antonio Conte last season and has reportedly told Chelsea he wants to leave despite the arrival of Maurizio Sarri as manager.
United have emerged as the clear favourites to sign the former Shakhtar Donetsk star after Barcelona ended their interest to sign Malcom and it looks like a switch to Old Trafford has now moved a huge step closer to completion.
That’s because TeamTalk are citing a report from TuttoSport that claims Chelsea have accepted a £67m offer from Man Utd for Willian’s signature so a reunion with Mourinho is now a distinct possibility.
The 29-year-old should have no problem passing a medical and you’d think personal terms should be nothing more than a formality so if these reports are accurate, it looks like Willian could be heading to United over the coming days.
