Man Utd Prepare Swoop For £35m Attacker As Red Devils Look To Land 4th Signing

Manchester United are ready to turn their attention to £35m Napoli star Dries Mertens after struggling to sign first choice target Ivan Perisic

There is plenty of Manchester United gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the English giants linked with a whole host of star names. Today, United are eyeing a swoop for Dries Mertens…

Manchester United are ready to turn their attention to £35m Napoli star Dries Mertens after struggling to sign first choice target Ivan Perisic, according to the Express.

Jose Mourinho has admitted his disappointment at United’s lack of business in the transfer market as the Red Devils have only signed third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant, young full-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred – who’s the only one of the trio expected to be a first team regular.

The Portuguese coach confirmed last week that he would ideally like to sign two more players before the transfer window closes on August 9th with a centre-back and wide attacker reportedly on the agenda.

The likes of Willian and Gareth Bale have been linked with a move to Man Utd in recent weeks but the Express claims that Perisic is Mourinho’s prime target following his heroics for Croatia at the World Cup.

However, United are being forced to look at alternatives as Inter Milan are determined to hold on to Perisic and the newspaper is citing a report from Transfermarketweb that says Mourinho is now ready to turn his attention to Mertens.

The Italian outlet says Napoli are willing to cash-in on the 31-year-old if Man Utd put £35m on the table despite Mertens playing a key role for the club since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2013.

The attacker has provided 90 goals and 58 assists in his 233 appearances for Napoli over the past five years – including 21 goals last season to help then push Juventus all the way in the Serie A title race.

Mertens also enjoyed an excellent World Cup as he played a key role for semi-finalists Belgian and it seems Man Utd could now be ready to offer him the chance to prove himself in the Premier League this summer.

The former PSV star is capable of playing anywhere across the front three so he could be viewed as the perfect replacement for Anthony Martial amid speculation the Frenchman could be on the move over the coming days.

United always make a ‘pig’s ear’ of transfers.
It is quicker to do your shopping at a supermarket with the wife than United take to sign players!
Every off-season United are connected to players who are out of reach, are too expensive or plainly do not want to come to OT because of the lack of success but just now, there is another reason… Jose Mourinho!
Many players look to see how a club plays its football and at present United play boring, slow, big build-up leading to nothing football which would even make imsomniacs go to sleep!
Mourinho does not believe in playing Sir Alex’s way and that has annoyed United fans.
Zidane, as was mentioned yesterday in various reports would eb the ideal man to change both United’s fortunes and playing style and make United ‘great’ again… and the transfers would be more exciting too!

£30m for a 31 year old NEVER another Mourinho nail to add to United’s coffin. This is the downside any Club employing Mourinho will have to suffer, his lack of being able to build a team of youthful enthusiasm and energy makes him obsolete. His style and tactics belong in the iron age, he is never again going to have the success of his past and this self acknowledgement is reflected in his moods and demeanour.

This is what that simply bites me. I find it bored when watching their games ever since Sir Alex’s retirement. Go get us a coach that will bring back the glory days.
