Arsenal have suffered a major injury blow ahead of the new season after Sead Kolasinac was ruled out for around two months but there is better news on Aaron Ramsey.

Kolasinac started against Chelsea in our International Champions Cup clash on Wednesday night but picked up a knee injury midway through the second half during the 1-1 draw.

The Bosnian international limped off in the 70th minute and was replaced by Ainsley Maitland-Niles as Arsenal went on to beat our London rivals on penalties at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Unai Emery admitted after the game the injury was a concern and tests have now confirmed Kolasinac has damaged knee ligaments meaning he’ll be out for between 8 to 10 weeks.

Ramsey was due to start against Chelsea in midweek but was withdraw shortly before kick off after feeling tightness in his calf during the pre-match warm up with youngster Emile Smith Rowe replacing him in the starting eleven.

Emery said after the game that Ramsey’s omission was just a precaution and an update on the clubs website has confirmed the Welsh international is hoping to return to training next week.

A statement on Arsenal.com read:

Aaron Ramsey

Developed tightness in his right calf. Continues to be assessed. Aiming to train next week.

Sead Kolasinac

Sustained an injury to his left knee. Will be out for 8-10 weeks.

Obviously it’s a huge relief to hear that Ramsey’s injury isn’t serious and he could be fit for our Premier League opener against Manchester City next weekend.

However, losing Kolasinac for at least 8 weeks is a huge blow on the eve of the new season as he was in-line to start against City but now Emery has a big decision to make.

Maitland-Niles is an option as although he’s not a natural left-back, he can play there and has had a full pre-season under his belt. Nacho Monreal has only had one week’s training so we’ll have to wait and see how sharp he looks against Lazio this evening but he might be just short to face City next Sunday.
